YISO NO.4 - FRANCOIS & AMAURY POP BY

4 Worms + 2 French boys = POP music. Here's the science bit..

DEAR DIARY (Nov Part 8)

Dear Diary,

We gave the new songs to The Pictish Trail and he replied: "it's like 'Come Together' Primal Scream meets Apache Indian".

Great news!!..King Kenny loves our new song! That's King Creosote don't cha know! Well chuffed. We spent most of the day trying to decide if we were gonna go with 'The Elastic (WAIST or WASTE) Band'? It went to the deadlock so we called on the King again and he voted for 'Waste!'. Defeat for LH, win for BB!

SW on BB > "The Simon Cowell trousers are getting higher, the teeth are getting whiter & your 'flat top' is taller and flatter. The next step is perhaps for me to find a way of dealing with you as the Cowell train is gaining momentum. Lord have mercy on us all."

We got the mastered songs back which sound great! Thanks Rueban! Rueben or Rueban? He's a Fence Collective man i'm pretty sure. We've seen him kicking around with James Yorkston outside the Co-Op throwing stones at Coke cans and swearing at old ladies.

Songs...done!
Artwork....done!
ALL GOOD, ALL GOOD BABY!!
Can't wait for this to come out now!!

Regards,

OLO Worms

DEAR DIARY (Nov Part 7)

Felt a bit down in the dumps about myself and so on (boring) then just as i was beginning to feel better and began climbing my way out of the pit of doom i found a Hollyoaks hunks calendar on top of my wardrobe..oh jeeez!! "put those six packs away boys before i cut my wrists!"...or i 'll cut you! ahhh, i stumbled across an idea! I turned to Tony Hutchinson and took the scissors to his muscles and began to cut circles. These circles would go on to form part of the artwork for the new songs. Waste not want not, or..waist not want not? Only OLO's will get that bad joke. The song is about kinda about men's weight issues so it worked out perfectly in the end. The calendar was meant to be found on this day at that precise moment. Thanks God! I ended up using my freshly cut hair in the artwork too. I glued it to the photocopies of my feet to make hairy feet. Used every flag in the world, i could'nt let any country down..although there is no English flag.

YES DADDY!

The Pictish Trail blogged about our new songs. Read it HERE.

WORMS IN SPACE

Yes, Bristol worms in space.

DEAR DIARY (Nov Part 6)

Dear Diary,

Got some tour dates through, can't say where or when they are but just keep late Jan 2010 free. BB recorded the sound of the Boot Camp swamp (pond) for one of our songs. We spent time thinking bout OLO YISO digital packs, physical packs, the out takes & mixtapes. Sunday (15th Nov) was to be the last day of recording for the new songs (news on those songs will be posted later in the week). It was the first day in our brilliant new practice room. We started at 8am and finished at 6pm, then we moved onto The Crystal Maze where we continued til 1am with just a short break for a X-Factor & Pizza. Highlight of the day was when we all recorded our 'Sister Act 2' style backing vocal.."SWAMP THING!!!!!".

DEAR DIARY (Nov Part 5)

BB writes..

Chin shaved, teeth brushed, sock over mic, lyric sheet in hand, Mum in town...home alone rapping!! ELVIS LIVES! Just as i was about to do my 'Back From England' vocals a crow outside my window butted in and advised me put a hat on, it worked! By way of thanks we'll keep him on the recording. I got nervous, what other MCs get butterfly tummys?!?? Whiskey and lemonade calmed me. I think i did ok. Brain pounding stress with these new songs..we all seem to be confusing each other. I wanna be in Bristol with the other 3 sorting this mess.

DEAR DIARY (Nov Part 4)

Dear Diary,

BIG day of recording! Got to the studio room early and proceeded to waste a few hours recording wet limp drums (it's all good now). Our French friend Francois & his friend Amaury turned up and saved the day! Francois played trumpet, Amaury played drums. Together they sprinkled their magic over 'Back From England' and now it's spicy!! You gotta love the French!

DEAR DIARY (Nov Part 3)

Dear Diary,

Went to the seaside (Clevedon), It was gloomy but we had fun. We ate crumpets on the pier, threw rocks, saw dead dog on beach, ate chips and dead dog pies, wet our socks, and recorded all the sounds there. We could'nt get in to the Royal Mail so the next stop on the FUN bus was Southmead! We drove around looking for trouble with our recorder out the car window. In Sommerfield i got hit in the balls with a shopping basket by G.Love for doing a bad U2 joke. The big man (G.Jones) cooked us all a chilli and we all sat down and watched possibly the best X-Factor ever! "Who's seen Gummo Simon! Gummo isn't a film Simon! Silly song Simon, silly song!" Louis Walsh is soo funny! I'm hoping tomorrow's theme is 'the songs from Gummo'. Jedward were of course out of this world! What will they do this week? Exciting! Even one of me fave Dave Lynch films 'Mullholland Drive' got a mention! Ha! how weird's that? We watched it with subtitles which gives the X-Factor another level of enjoyment. Slept on the sofa while others went out to old men pubs.

OLO Worms

DEAR DIARY (Nov Part 2)

Dear Diary,

We got Google Wave. We surfed it. We WIPED OUT!! Arrrrrrggghhhhh!!! 'Back From England' is all about balance. We're all trying to stay on the same board while the sharks nip at our toes. We're nearly home and dry (on the warm sandy beach). Will be finished next week as will 'The Elastic Waste Band' which has been cut from 8mins to 5mins. Its the LOW FAT edit. The creamy full fat version will be on the album. Just sent some info on the new songs to a man who is gonna pop it in a magazine. We might have a new den to hang out in soon.

Regards,

OLO Worms

DEAR DIARY (Nov Part 1)

Watched quite alot of the OLO demo videos we film when messing about. I forgot a few weeks ago i had made up a new 'song' called 'ANTS AGAIN'. There's no other lyrics. It's more a question.."Ants again!!??". It's got HIT written all over it. Had a good idea about the recorded version of the OLO song 'The Barber Shop'. I wanna get aload of guests for a sexy whispered intro. I have people in mind. It's gonna be like one of the skits off De La Soul's '3 Feet High And Rising' except less cool (although they were geeky at the time too).

COCKSURE WORM

THE OXJAM FESTIVAL GIG

SUNDAY 25th October 2009
Oxjam Music Festival
Start The Bus, BRISTOL

BB Writes:

Yes! This turned out to be a pretty good gig. We kept the same set as the 'B-Team' tour as we are terrified of change. No of course not! No really..we wanted to do all new songs with no practice while doing impressions of all the other bands without even knowing them. The other bands we saw completely cleared the dancefloor leaving us the job of dragging the peasants back to worship us. It worked! Well they were there, maybe not worshipping us but at least showing some signs that they were enjoying it. I enjoyed it! I liked being down on the ground. Gave my Dad's ICI boiler suit another airing this time with added halo. After the gig we went and saw our mate (ha!) Jimmy Yorko aka James Yorkston. I got bullied into going up and singing with him for 'Tortoise Regrets Hare'.."fox takes...ahhh wahtever!" was my last line. My excuse is the usual, b-b-booze. We don't have any planned gigs now til 2010 (although there maybe a Gorlkeepers/Women Running Backwards thang around Christmas). Let's just get these god damn songs recorded!!

THE SETLIST..

Sphinx
Are You Girl?
Back From England
The Elastic Waste Band
The Barber Shop
Curves
Neutral Zones

HEY! We got a good review on a Crackerjack website. See it HERE. It sounded like this..

"Later that afternoon, that same venue saw the best act of the day - Olo Worms, the name as unique as the act itself. Their awa-inspiring experimental tunes which defy all labels had the whole venue enthralled.
With so much going on on such a small stage, it's never a dull moment. Olo Worms are what happens when you add gaffer tape, deep voiced robots with hilarious lyrics and Doves-esque vocals to an epic Brakes track. Utterly compelling."
