OLO RADIO - OT05 - UNDER THE INFLUENCE (Part 1) - 30/4/08

We were asked recently to DJ at a night called 'Under The Influence' where you are asked to play music (and in our case other things) that has influenced you and your music in some way. Click HERE to see photos from the night. Instead of posting a list of the things we played we have decided to make podcasts of all the tracks we played and some more extra ones..making up about 2% of all our influences..we havn't got the time to make another 50 or so mixes and we're guessing you don't have the time/patience either. It's been hard, but somehow we have managed to whittle down a good selection of our favourite and most influential bands, singers, artists, albums, films, directors, comedians, sportsmen, celebrities, etc into 3 different podcasts.

So this is number 1 in a series of 3 'Under The Influence' podcasts. Parts 2 & 3 coming soon!

'OLO EXOTIC' UK TOUR VIDEOS

So it's been a while since we played these gigs i know (just checked..it's been a month!? oh..ok..let's keep this blog up to date now) but let's not worry about that now. Each video is made up of little clips filmed on the day/night of the gig. We should say thanks to everyone who came and saw us at any or all of these gigs, and thanks to those of you that filmed most of the clips. We should also say thanks to our manager Chuck Head who was always a good shoulder(?) to cry on. There were mistakes, wobbles, and sulks, but on the whole we had a pretty..pretty..pretty good time!

We are still editing together the Fence Homegame videos *groan* but here are the first 4..

'UNDER THE INFLUENCE' GIG

SUNDAY APRIL 20th

The Thekla, Bristol

Errrm..it was ok, just ok. We had some (alot) of sound problems and no way of sorting them out. Playing on the deck below us was a drum workshop..that helped. It was pretty dead but..meh! i'll stop moaning now. On the up side we had some new songs which we tried out for the first time and unfinished bits n' bobs, re-jigged old songs, and 2 covers. Our setlist looked like this..

Storm
Are You Girl
Fuzzy / Sphinx
Don't Touch Baby
Guess Who Garden
Flakes
Bycycle Rider (Beach Boys cover)
Swell
Barber Shop
Tortoise Shell
What's The Ugliest Part Of Your Body? (Frank Zappa cover)

We DJ'd for a few hours playing stuff that's influenced us in some way. Instead of posting a list of the things we played we have made/still making podcasts of all the tracks and some more extra ones (making up about 2% of all our influences..can't have anymore otherwise the podcasts would end up being rather long). Expect the podcasts very soon.

THE BLAME

Lies with this boy..
Yes so it's the bad blogger Boonbeans here. Thought i would just stop by and say i have been very bad and not kept you up to date with all the OLO news/videos/photos/etc. The others seem to trust me with keeping this thing tickin' along and i have let them down, you down, and most importantly...i've let myself down. I have quit my job now so i have no money...i mean no reason to not make more things and post more. We've been quite busy with getting our stuff together for the recent live gigs so that also explains the lack of new songs, radio podcasts, doodles, etc. We only have 2 gigs booked up now..one in may, one in june (we'll post about those soon) so we'll be trying to make some new sounds over the next few months. Thanks to those people who came to Sunday's gig. You'll be flooded with OLO goo at the weekend. Yes i do realise that i could have probably posted something interesting in the time it's taken me to type this.

UNDER THE INFLUENCE

'Under The Influence' is a weekly night on board The Thekla (Bristol) that asks the band/artist to play some music that has influenced them in some way then they play live (usually in an acoustic style) afterwards. We are doing this this Sunday (20th April). Here are the times..

6-8pm DJ SET
8-8.30pm LIVE SET

We'll hopefully be playing some NEW unfinshed music. There maybe some new visuals too?? Whatever the set-up it'll be different from the 'Exotic' tour set. There will be a podcast of the DJ set that will be posted up either on Sunday or Monday.

BLOGAGEDDON!

Our uploading skills get some praise in the new issue of Bristol's Venue Magazine. Forget about the music, all a good band needs to do these days is blog about their blog. Once i post this i have a feeling the internet might get all confused and blow up!

'Fun-loving'? Are you joking!!? This is a painful job for all the workers.

EXTRA EXTRA!

To deal with the thousands of stupid photos we take, we have created a new page to post them up. We don't want to clog this news page up with them all so from now.. OLO Extra will be the dumping ground for most of our photographic masterpieces and anything else that you don't really need to see (but you can if you want to / you've nothing better to do / you are some kind of crazed uber fan).

See ALL the Homegame photos over at OLO Extra.

'OLO EXOTIC' UK TOUR (Part 4)

MONDAY MARCH 25th

The Thekla,
Bristol, England
Supporting Malcolm Middleton

Yes, it's a boat..

Our 1st ever rider (ok it wasn't ours but we did nibble pitta). This is the kind of thing you don't need to see, humour us..this is EXCITING for us right now. A table with free food and drink!? Wow! What a treat! We'll phase out these kind of dull photos now (actually that depends on what happens next).

Wow! Read the above.

Meeting Malcolm. Not what he wanted to be doing minutes before he was due on stage.
